The Internet has been a great innovation for everyone but most of all for businesses. On the Internet, businesses large and small have discovered countless new avenues to find new customers and to serve them better. This is great for those who know how to use the new technologies, but those who don’t are being left behind. That’s why it’s important for small business owners to learn which technologies are available and how to use them to their advantage.
Here are just a few ways you can use modern technologies:
Getting up close and personal – Technology has made it possible to have the convenience of an Internet business while still being personal with your customers. You can use technologies like Skype to talk to your customers at the touch of a button. Or use video conferencing to host business meetings, give a business talk, or let your customers or colleagues ask questions in a community forum. Share behind the scenes action at your company on Snapchat. Advertising – There are all kinds of unique ways to advertise your business online. Most people know about advertising methods that have been around for a while, like Google ads and online yellow pages. But there are lots of other ways to share about your company online. Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter can help you reach new customers and potential business partners. You also can submit your website to directories, such as del.icio.us, Digg, and StumbleUpon, that categorize the best sites for people to visit. You probably can’t afford to pay for a TV commercial. But if you can afford a hand-held video camera, you can make videos and post them to YouTube. These videos may help you become more personable to your customers, but if your premise is unique enough, your videos may turn viral and reach a whole new base of customers.
Keeping customers up to date – In addition to attracting new customers, you also can use the Internet to keep your current customers up to date on product and service updates. On your website, your customers can visit your blog, subscribe to your RSS feed, sign up for your email list, or register for your latest webinar. All it takes is a little work from you, and your customers will feel your personal touch of service every time they log on.
In reality, there are many other ways you can use technology to your advantage. You just have to keep yourself up to date on what’s available, then mix in a little creativity. The best part is new technology is always available, so there’s no limit to how far you will be able to go.
