How does your audience receive your content? Understanding content consumption can help you improve your marketing efforts and increase your sales. If you’ve experienced a drop in website visitors recently, review your analytics. Is the drop because your content is not useful, relevant, or available in all formats? Follow these tips to be sure your content meets your audience’s needs:
Content must be mobile friendly – If your website isn’t mobile friendly, you’re going to lose readers and sales. More people are consuming content via mobile devices today than they are via computers. Ensure that your content is consumable on all types of media.
Content must be original – Gone are the days of spreading the same content in multiple places online. All of the content you contribute online needs to be unique and not used again elsewhere. If you want to attract people to consume your content, make it new, make it original, and make it frequent.
Content should be targeted – You probably know this, but it needs to be repeated. Creating original content that has nothing to do with your target audience is an exercise in futility. Make unique content that puts your target audience first, and you’ll be more successful.
Content must be useful – If you are spitting out content without any thought at all, then you’re not making useful content that will get your audience excited. Your content must put the audience first; remember, it’s all about them not you.
Content needs to be multimedia – Video, infographics, images, audio, eBooks, articles, blog posts, and more should be used together to create a storm of new content that works together to promote the products or services you want to promote. When you repurpose old content, put a unique spin on it.
Content should capture your audience’s attention – Your use of content, images, promoted posts, advertisements, video, audio, and more matters if you want your content to be seen.
It’s your responsibility to understand how your audience is consuming your content. Read industry news so you have a better understanding of what your audience expects from you. If you’re not sure, poll your audience and ask them directly what they want. You might be surprised by the answers.
